Battle for Control

This is the second note home from the teacher about William.  Last week we had one home as well.  Not a very good start to 1st grade.

Today's devotional talked about the battle for our minds.  How there is always a Spiritual battle with Heaven and Earth intersecting in our minds, vying for control.  The downward pull of our desire to please ourselves and the upward choice of refusing to give in to the lies and deceit of the Enemy.

When we are in 1st grade, the Battle for Control of our minds have choices that look like this:  choice between using a pencil and not a crayon to do pages 6-9 in the handwriting book or the choice of obeying or ignoring the teacher to sit down from the chalkboard and stop writing/spelling and demonstrating "potty" words with your friends.... such as poop, fart, burp and pee.

No matter the situation though, it is still a Battle for Control of our minds.  The choice of buying the package of deceit that our Enemy is selling us or not.  He markets it in the disguise of laughter and getting attention from our friends or sometimes he puts a wrapper around it that says in big fun letters how we should always be able to "do things our own way" and not have to do things the way authority says we have to.

It sure is hard to make a good choice when that package looks SO good.  It is even harder to "get" that those nicely wrapped packages end with consequences!

Lord, help me to see my own battle for my mind as clearly as I see William's.  Shine Your light on the lies and deceit the Enemy tries to sell me, and let me fight the Battle for Control of my mind with Your help.
